Here's what I see outside my window:

A monument company, pot hole filled street, several roofs,

I-75 and train tracks. And a parking lot full of bathtubs. (love ya, Building Value!)

While it's not my life's dream to have this sort of view, it is fine for now.

(Here's what I'd like to see in the future, if you're curious.)

Here's what our living room looks like. We live in a converted factory, and have HUGE windows. I couldn't fit them all in one picture! (p.s. yeah, i 'shopped 4 pictures together! I couldn't get everything in one shot!)

My plants are loving the sunshine.

So yeah, our little apartment in the city is cool. We still haven't finished hanging all the pictures or making our storage bins, but it definitely feels like home.

How did it get to be Wednesday already?! Sheesh.

First things first. I used a table saw the other day. It was fun. Travis showed me. It's very easy.

I sawed several boards to make some storage crates we're making for our apartment.

I can see how easy it would be to lose a finger though!

I was pretty proud of myself.

Also, I just got back from my yearly cardiologist appointment and got another bill of good health! He said not to come back for a year!

Anyway...here's a few things I like right now.

Colorful pants. These are from The Gap. I am hoping some colorful pants will be my next clothing purchase. They are so cute!

Cute flats for Spring. My one and only pair of flats right now have been falling apart for months, so a new pair would be nice. I love these flats with the colored toe, though I can't seem to find any in a reasonable price! Any ideas? These are from Anthro, and a bit pricey!

Neon manicure!!! Loves it. I don't think I have all the colors to do this, unfortunately, but I could definitely improvise!

Finally, last but not least.....COW MUG!

Hello and Happy Friday!! So glad it's the weekend.

We're going to make pizza tonight and watch Seinfeld, and go to my parent's house on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl. I am not really a football fan, but am looking forward to hanging out with the family and eating snacks.

Check them out here. I really like these pink ones, but seriously, they are all cuuuuuute! Very neutral, so will match anything. And, of course, Toms donates a pair of shoes to a child who needs some with every purchase. Nice.

Into a corner

My husband just built this awesome corner shelf for the apartment.

Our kitchen is galley style so it's kind of small, and since we just got married, we need extra storage for all our new kitchen stuff! He is so sweet and talented. He even painted it the color I wanted.

If you're anything like me, you're probably nosy about what food I have on the shelves. So here's a close up. Cheez-its= what happens when I grocery shop hungry.

The bottom shelf has slots for cookie sheets and skinny stuff like that. So easy to get out rather than trying to sort through them all stacked up.

It looks great. Very unobtrusive because we weren't using the corner anyway!

Even Liesel the pup approves! (She also approves of Cheez-its).

Year of the Cookie challenge!

I kind of have a sweet tooth. (well, also a savory tooth.....so pretty much anything sweet or salty: gimme!)

Since I have this sweet tooth, I have amassed a collection of cookie recipes, which thus far, have tragically been unmade.

Whitney, over at The Curtis Casa, challenged herself last year to make one cake a month (she's doing pies this year). Since I am not a big cake baker, and, as stated, have a large collection of cookie recipes, I decided to follow her lead and bake a new cookie a month!!

Bragging about my man....again

So, I've mentioned many times that my fiance is an awesome woodworker.

He recently finished a project for my friend/bridesmaid Samantha, and I have to show it to you! I am SOO proud of him!

Here it is:

An entryway table! She really liked a few similar tables sold at Potter Barn, but did not like the price. So, she asked if Travis could quote her on one!

He made it to her specifications and it is perfect (and probably better made than anything you'll get in a store)!

I really wish you could see it in person- it is even more impressive!

After our wedding, we are really hoping he can gear up his business. He's going to be working on his website and making more contacts.

Glitter!! Not a color you say? I beg to differ. It seems like glitter was all over the place (literally and figuratively) this year. Nail polish, clothes, decor, shoes. Love it.

Best Date

Hiking/canoeing. Sure, dinner and a movie is fun, but Travis and I really like to go for walks. Here we are enjoying the Yellowstone River. Another good outdoor option is canoeing. You might even get engaged on a canoe date, like me! hehe.

Bread! Carbs. I love ya.

Pinterest. Duh. I got ALL my wedding ideas from it. And I have a craft and recipe list a mile long. And cute outfits. And....pretty outdoor pictures. And....funny things. And...decoration ideas. It's like a girl blogger paradise.

So....2011 was a great year for me! Maybe my favorite year so far.

I am not much one dwelling on the past, really, but I do think it's nice to look back and be thankful for everything that has happened.

So let's take a look....

1. Started budgeting, first by myself, then with Travis.

2. Made lots of bread!

3. Went to Phoenix

4. Tried to get better at sewing

5. Planted a veggie garden with Travis...and deer destroyed it.

6. Had jury duty

7. Bragged about my man

8. Got a new transmission in my car. Cha-ching. I didn't really tell many people at the time, but Travis helped me pay for it. He's such a keeper.

9.Went to Chicago.

10. GOT ENGAGED!

11. Went to Yellowstone National Park

12. Lost my engagement ring. (let's not talk about this one) Also, I never told you guys, but I got a new one!! yay!

13. Got a Kitchenaid Mixer!

14. Got VERY busy planning a wedding, among other things.

Okay, so obviously, I have been very busy with wedding stuff to update very much the past month or so, but I plan on returning full force after the wedding....and maybe even with a cool new co-blog as well! So be on the lookout!

Also, about Christmas, which I haven't talked about: it was so nice this year, our families are so generous! I love them all. We spent time with my parents and brother, then went to Columbus to see Travis' family. So great.

And now it is time to start to gearing up for the wedding in a few weeks! eeek! So excited!

Busy busy busy

With the wedding, Christmas, and work and my fiance being an hour away, I have been busy! I can hardly find the time to update the ole blog, much less get to bed at a decent hour!

Hopefully this weekend I can take a deep breath and relax a bit, catch up on phone calls, emails and thank you cards.

Wedding updates: I found the bridesmaid shoes! This was a bit difficult because I wanted something close toed for January, a light color, not super tall and reasonably priced. Here's what I found:

I like them, and I think the girls could wear them again to work or something, definitely. I would wear them!

I also had my hair trial. It wasn't exactly what I was envisioning, so we are going to try again! I was a bit disappointed, but my stylist is great and will be able to do what I want. I just need to be very clear and not talk so much as to distract her!

Mom and I are picking up our dresses from alterations tomorrow. I am excited to have my dress back! Then we are going to look at jewelry. Can't wait!

Where you guys shop for cost effective purses? I have a bit of a champagne taste and beer budget.

I like something a little unique and big, but not toooo big. And I've been feeling gray or brown recently, but I am open to other colors.

Living with heart disease

After reading Lindsay's post over on Delighted Momma, I wanted to share my story with you.

I was diagnosed with heart disease- mitral valve prolapse and pulmonary hypertension -when I was 21. I don't know exactly when my symptoms started, but I do remember having many in high school.

They were:

extreme shortness of breath after ANY physical activity (later in the disease, even going up 3 steps was a problem.
heart palpitations
very very tired. I would fall asleep at the drop of a hat.
swollen ankles (this was later in the disease)
other random things as a result of my heart not working properly, such as dry skin in weird places.

When my ankles started swelling, I went to my nurse practioner, who told me to stop eating sodium and had me wear support hose for a week (very cute, right?). It went away. A month later, the swelling came back. The doctor in the practice came saw me this time, and told me I had a heart murmur, which I had never known.

I had an echocardiogram (basically an ultrasound on your chest) a few days later. When my dad asked if the tech had told me anything about the results and I said no, I started to wonder if maybe something was really wrong (Normally a doctor reads the test results, but techs can definitely see if there's an issue).

And, as you can guess, the results were not good. My originally cardiologist suggested a heart and lung transplant. (Thank you God that didn't happen!)

I went to the hospital a few days later to have a heart catheterization, which is where they stick a tiny camera up the artery in your thigh to have a look around the heart. They normally just give something to relax you during this procedure, but I passed out from exhaustion. I woke up vomiting, as a reaction from a medicine . I kept trying to sit up, but that kept opening up the artery. I just remember lots of people around me, and my mom trying to get me calmed down.

Of course, I was admitted immediately to the hospital. I stayed there a week. Fortunately, the hospital was just a block or two from my college, so tons of my friends came to visit. They even gave me a wireless heart monitor so I didn't have to stay in bed the whole time. The nurses there were EXCELLENT and I will never forget them.

I was really ill. I remember going to the bathroom with some friends in the room. They could see my little monitor while I was in there. When I flushed the toilet my heart rate went up to 125 bpm. Not so hot.

Anyway, to speed things up, I was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic after a week. I flew up in my own private medic plane, even. It was about 2 am when they moved me, so I slept through it all.

I felt awful. I had felt awful for a long time, but now I was finally ALLOWED to feel awful and had a reason.

The Cleveland Clinic was fantastic. They were so matter-of-fact about everything. This is what we'll do, and this is how we'll do it.

I had surgery a few days later. Originally, I was supposed to have three heart valves replaced with pig valves. However! When the doctor went in, he found I didn't need new valves just yet! He did some repairs, put in a ring to help things and that was that! The surgery was over in 3 hours instead of like....9.

I guess my parents had some sort of pager, and when it buzzed after 3 hours, my dad had a near breakdown. I mean, 3 hours in, that must be bad news, right? haha! No! It was amazing and I thank God so much.

I stayed a few more days in the hospital, and then we drove home. Recovery was not fun. I mean....they break your sternum. That hurts. I was off for about 3 months before going back to school.

Timing on the whole ordeal was absolutely perfect. It was over summer break, my dad happened to be laid off at the time, so he was able to stay home and take care of me while I was recovering. A lady at my church gave me money that covered rent at my school apartment while I couldn't work. Everything was just amazing how it all worked out.

Anyway, sorry for the long post.

I just want to urge you to get checked out if you're feeling bad, out of breath, have heart palpitations. Don't wait to go to the doctor. It might not be heart disease, but it could be something else.

Wedding shower weekend part 1

I had two wedding showers this weekend! And one last week.

Unfortunately, I have no pictures yet. I have a few my friend took on my camera, but I left the camera with my fiance. And my future sister-in-law has some, but I haven't gotten those yet.

So....you get this picture from facebook that someone took with their phone.

My cousin made these beautiful little flower arrangements for one of the showers- and everyone got to take one home! She is so talented. She's doing the flowers for the wedding, and if they look anything like this, I will be a happy girl! She really knows what I am going for, so I trust her 100%.

I am just so amazed and thankful at the generosity with time, money and other resources of our friends and family. It really blows me away. I just can't thank people enough for helping us to start out on a great foot.

Okay, so life has been a bit hectic. Just busy busy busy. hour drive to work, pre-martial counseling, working on decorations, bridal showers (pictures soon!), work events, small group, etc, etc. Not that I am complaining. However, I will be glad for a four day weekend soon! ahh...sounds wonderful.

Here's a few reasons of why I need a break:

1. I don't know about you, but around here, people who attend Catholic churches often has some sort of sticker on their car with the name of their church. I saw a car today with a sticker that said "Stingers", and I honest to goodness, thought it said "St. Ingers". Seriously?! St. Ingers?!

2. Laundry. My only legwear option for work yesterday was a pair of black tights with huge holes in the thighs. I was wearing a longish dress, and they were covered up, but....who am I, Britney Spears?

3. Blog updates. I haven't been able to write anything of substance in far too long! Soon though...soon!

4. Spending time with Travis (this should be #1, of course). This week especially, we have both just been booked solid. And since I am living an hour away, it's hard to pop over for a quick visit.

5. I made a return to the mall at lunch yesterday. It was raining, and my return was in a gift bag. Five feet from the door, the bottom of the bag busts out and all my items go flying. While I was crawling around on the concrete in a dress, ten people standing under an awning just WATCH me. Thanks. Finally a nice older lady comes and helps me pick everything up. Very sweet of her. (I know I shouldn't expect people to help me out, but...I would do it for someone else! sheesh. It wasn't pouring, only drizzling.)

6. THANKSGIVING DINNER! Yum. I love stuffing the best I think. How about you?

Over the weekend, I got a chance to break in the new oven.

The oven at my old place was WAY off temperature wise. I suppose I could have gotten a thermometer and calibrated it, but...I guess I was too lazy, and I knew it was only temporary. Plus, it's kind of fun running to the oven when you smell something burning after only 5 minutes! (Just kidding)

Anyway, I baked:

Sourdough Baguettes! They turned out amazing! My sourdough starter is still kickin' and did an awesome job for this recipe. And the temperature of the oven was perfect. I am so happy to have a functioning oven again.

I also made some s'mores bars. The sound great in theory, but I tweaked the recipe too much, I think. I reduced the sugar, thinking the marshmallow and chocolate would sweeten it up, but it just wasn't as good. I think with S'mores stuff, it's best just to go with it. I mean, it's not a health food anyways. haha. Also, my graham cracker crumbs were old and they tasted odd. Definitely one to try again.

My friend/coworker Kirsten has been writing on her blog what she's thankful for everyday in November. What a nice idea.

I have been so busy the past week, what with moving to my parents house, unpacking at our new place and just generally running around, I haven't had a moment to stop and think.

So this is a good way to think about what I need to be appreciatin'.... yo.

1. I am thankful for our new apartment. It's a bit small, but I LOVE it. I've never lived in a place that hasn't been lived in before, and I love that it's new. It's got HUGE beautiful windows that let lots of sun in for my plants, two big closets and an open layout. It's great. I can't wait to move in after the wedding. I'll show you pictures soon!

2. I am thankful that my fiance and I have great jobs that keep us afloat more than well enough.

3. I am thankful my parents are letting me live with them for a few months before the wedding to save some money. I am glad I get to live with them one last time, too.

I am not sure if I can emphasize enough how much I love cute animals.They just bring so much joy to my heart.

I can definitely look at cute puppy and kitty photos for hours on end. It is such a de-stresser! I feel so calm and relaxed after looking at cute animals.

Also, I am such a softy when it comes to animals and don't understand why a person could flat out hate pets. Seems suspicious to me.

It would be nice at work to have an office kitten or something. I've brought this up to the HR mananger, but for some strange reason, he thinks this is a bad idea? haha....(okay, so I guess people could be allergic, and who will take care of the cat on the weekend, and we work with people with disabilities who might be afraid of animals, but otherwise, I see no problems. ;)

Wedding Wednesday- down to the wire

Okay, so the wedding is in about 80 days. I feel like we have made all the big decisions, and now it's time for the little ones, which I have more trouble with!

I am kind of a last-minute, go-with-the flow type of person (at least in my personal life, maybe not work...) so these little decisions make me antsy! What if I want to change something a week before the ceremony? Can I do that? Why can't we just wait to decide right before the wedding?

And honestly, I more just want to be married than anything, and don't care about these little decisions, like, what color should this or that be, or should we invite this person or that person. I just want to marry Travis. (maybe we should have gone to Vegas....kidding, kidding).

But also...perhaps this is a good lesson for me. Life can't always be about being open and free with decisions and whatever I please.

I am also glad my mom is such a planner. She has really been a huge help, and I am grateful she and I are so different in decision making.

Anyway, on to the more exciting stuff.

Wedding jewelry!!

I haven't really given much thought to the jewelry I will be wearing. Of course, my engagment ring. Also, my grandmother's ring.

My dress has a lot of embellishment on the top, so I am not sure if I will wear a necklace at all. I do think I want some big earrings though. I wish there was a way to see how jewelry would look with the dress before I buy it!

A man named Hugh Comstock came to visit the town in 1924, and fell in love with dollmaker Mayotta Browne. Within the year, Hugh and Mayotta were married. Mayotta's business had taken off, and they were running out of room to store the dolls.

Mayotta asked Hugh to build her a cottage to use as a showroom. Hugh wasn't a builder but had an eye for whimsy, so he built her a cottage called Hansel.

Being a Grown-up in 2011 and other thoughts

In the past month or so, Travis (my fiance, and now you know his name! Decided it was time to spill the beans.) and I have started several shared google documents. We have a shared calendar, a shared to-do list (this is mainly for moving and the wedding), and a shared budget.

It seems very grown-up, especially the budget. I also think it's funny that it's all online and we can update it at any computer with internet access. Pretty sure this is not how my parents do it!

The documents super helpful and I'm really happy Travis had the idea. I like knowing if he has plans or appointments in the evening, and it's really good to see where our money is going. We are both big fans of Dave Ramsey, so the written budget is awesome. (If you're in any debt at all, you really should check out Dave! He rules.)

Anyway, remember when I was sort-of pining for a Kitchenaid mixer?!

Well.......my mom got me one for an early wedding gift!!

It's the kind that lifts up, instead of the tilting top kind. I love it! I have made several breads, whipped cream, and cookies so far. It's awesome.

I also made some of my favorite pie last week, banoffee pie! mmmmm....

As a recovering coffee snob, ( I used to work in a sort of anti-Starbucks non-profit one-location coffeeshop), I end up at Starbucks a lot.

The thing about Starbucks is that they are so many conveniently located. You don't have to make a special out-of-the-way trip to go to one, and you don't have to wait 15 minutes for your drink. (Unlike where I worked, which only has one employee working at a time, and you have to circle the block to find parking. [But I still love you old employer!])

Anyway, back to my point. I was at Starbucks last week and saw a new drink, the salted caramel mocha. I like caramel, I like salt, I like mocha! Sounds delish.

Normally I order drinks with half the amount of syrups (1.5 pumps please. Yes, I'm that person), because they are sooooo dang sweet. Come to find out, this drink has toffee nut, caramel and mocha syrup in it! Woah. So, even if I order 1.5 pumps each, I still get a TON of syrup.

Anyway, it wasn't bad, but I probably won't get it again. I am not a big fan of the toffee nut, I couldn't taste any salt and it mostly tasted like a flavored hot chocolate.

But now I can't wait until Christmas for the peppermint mocha!! Yum!! (Yes, I know you can get them year round, but they're so much better at Christmas!)

Here I am! It's been a long time since I updated. I just haven't felt inspired recently, but wanted to pop in!

I am in a bit of a tizzy because I am moving at the end of this month and have been going through all my things. When did I get so much "stuff"? Ack. Donating lots to work and Goodwill. Plus, I don't like the process of moving and cleaning out an apartment, yuck.

But I am happy about the outcome- my fiance is moving into our apartment, and I am staying with my parents until the wedding.

Still need to pick out bridesmaid dresses/the final bridesmaid, address invitations, make centerpeices, go to three showers and about a hundred other things. But I am excited. And I think living at home will be helpful for getting stuff ready.

Nerd alert- Lord of the Rings

hellllooooooo Aragorn!

My fiance and I have been watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy this weekend.

I was a bit surprised when my fiance even suggested watching it- he's not one for the fantasy genre generally, but I love it. My parents are big fans of that sort of thing, so I grew up watching fantasy/sci-fi stuff a lot.

We were at my parents place last weekend and my brother started watching The Fellowship of the Ring, which piqued fiance's interest. So I grabbed the DVD when I was there next, and fiance and I watched it last Friday, followed by The Two Towers on Saturday night (We're party animals, I tell ya).

They are just SO EPIC. Such a great example of good versus evil. I hope to grab the Return of the King DVD from mom and dad's soon so we can finish watching the series.

It's hard to pick a favorite character. Sam is loyal, Merry and Pippen are goofy/funny, Legolas is smart, Gimli is proud and funny, Aragorn is...well...Aragorn.

I started reading the books several years ago and got stuck on the last half of the last book. Never finished it. I still have the page bookmarked, I should try to finish it sometime!

Grandma's ring

As you might know, I lost my engagement ring a few weeks back.

My left ring finger was feeling rather naked, so mom offered to let me wear my grandma's wedding ring, which I had planned to wear on my right hand during the wedding anyway (for something old, of course!).

The ring is from the 1930's and you can totally tell by the style. I think it's so cute with its little diamond chips and ovals!

I am happy to wear it at the wedding to honor and remember my grandmother. And also happy to wear it on my left hand in the interim!

Picky about shoes

I hadn't realized how picky I was about shoes until recently. I guess I am kinda of picky about style in general.

Seems like in a lot of ways, I am pretty laid back. I'll eat most things. I'll go most places. But don't ask me to wear something I didn't previously approve, haha.

I probably dislike about 95% of the shoes I see in the store. Is that weird? I just think they're all not cute.

I don't like heels too high, I don't like mannish looking shoes, I don't like a bunch of straps. Unless they look cute. Which is totally subjective. Don't ever try to buy me shoes, I guess, haha.

However, on that rare occasion I see shoes I like, I will wear the heck out of them until they fall apart on my feet.

So, what do I like in shoes? Well, I suppose I like them slightly girly with a certain uniqueness, and a little bit retro.

Wedding...Friday: Bridesmaid dresses

Okay, so "Wedding Wednesday" came and went already this week, so I'm doing "Wedding Friday" again!

Today's topic: bridesmaid dresses

I have found lots and lots of pretty dresses for my ladies, but can't decide. A few of the girls are well-endowed, so I want to make sure to pick a dress that is going to work for them.

And it's in January, so I feel like I should go with long dresses. But...I really like shorter ones better. I guess there's tights and cardigans?

I also am not a huge fan of what is classified as a bridesmaid dress. Or at least an affordable bridesmaid dress. I like dresses you can just pick up at Macy's or wherever and not have to go get fitted for some *coughuglycough* satin thing.

Anyway, I have narrowed it down to two options.

1. Everyone picks their own in my blush color scheme, like in this image that's floating around.

I love the ruching, and I think the straps are nice for holding up the girls. And it's not that pricey. I would love to wear this as a bridesmaid dress, personally.

Garden update: the bounty

Since I'm moving soon, my fiance and I thought we'd clean up the garden and replant it with grass.

We had previously picked a few carrots, but they were just little taproots. And since the rest of our garden was chomped by deer, I had little hope and didn't check back on them.

So, when we went out yesterday to clear, we checked the carrots, just in case.

And guess what?! We had carrots!

Okay, so they are short and stumpy, but still carrots! I did a bit of research to see why this happened, and think the soil might have been too rich.

Anyway, I was excited nonetheless. And there's always next year.

I am soooo digging the sparkly nail polish out now!

For a while I thought maybe I was a bit old to wear it, but now it is such a trend, I don't think I am. I especially love the graduated, ombre sparkles!

I want to try all of these!!

A slight inconvenience about sparkly nail polish is that it's really hard to remove.

The other day, to get mine off, I just soaked each nail in remover for a few minutes. It helped a lot, but not sure how healthy it is for nails. Refinery 29 also posted some tips on an easy way to remove here.

Wedding Wednesday- Where we gonna live?

My fiance and I decided to get a completely new apartment for when we get married.

We both live in decent apartments now, but his is really small, and mine has neighbors that could be better (they once accused my fiance of stealing $60 out of their car. Why do you have $60 in your car? Why do you leave the windows down all the time?).

Anyway, my fiance has a workshop in one part of town, and we both live about 20 minutes away, on the other side of town. Hopefully we will be able to get a place closer so he can go more and work on his business, even though the area is slightly shady.

We looked at these really cool, super secure, brand new lofts last night that are near the workshop. The lofts are in an old can factory! How cool is that? We put in an application, so we'll see if we get one! We figured we'd take a year to save up to buy a house. So, if we can live in a cool place while doing that, why not?

Wedding Friday. Bummed

Well. I lost my engagement ring yesterday.

I am so bummed.

I was in a coffeeshop, went to the restroom, came back, and then a few minutes later noticed it wasn't on my finger anymore. I am 98% positive I had it on when I was sitting there earlier.

My mom looked, my dad looked, the coffeeshop employees looked, my fiance looked, nothing. Searched through the garbage, retraced steps, crawled on the floor. We even called Roto-Rooter to see if it was flushed. Nope.

So we have no clue where it is.

My fiance isn't mad, of course. I know it is just a ring. We'll get a new one eventually, but it's not even that that I care about. I am just sad because it really meant a lot to me and my fiance saved to give it to me.

We should have gotten it insured and I should have been more proactive in getting it resized, because it was a little too big.

We're just praying maybe someone will find it there and turn it in.

Downton Abbey Preview

1. I try not to tell many people, but I am not a fan of pumpkin flavored items. I do like pumpkin pie, but that's it. Pumpkin spice latte? Yuck. hah, sorry, I try to keep it quiet because everyone seems to love pumpkin! :)

Wow, it's Wedding Wednesday already! Sorry I have been MIA. My fiance was sick all weekend, so I was taking care of him, and then...you know, life happens!

Anyway, I am fortunate to have a cousin who does food and photography styling. She offered to help with arranging and helping me pick out flowers. She has a wholesale flower "source", too, so that's awesome.

I really like flowers with lots of petals- ranunculus, peonies, dahlias and poppies.
When I emailed her my picks she said, "You have great taste, but expensive and might be hard to find in January." Hah. Of course!

So she sent me to the wholesalers website, where you can categorize the flowers by month and availability.

She also mentioned a flower called anenome, which looks really similar to poppies.

I like it!

We're planning to go to the flower place in early October to see what else might be available.

More about woodworking

My fiance is such a woodworking stud. I mean, he's a stud in every way, but he is so passionate about and really good at woodworking. He hopes to turn it into a full-time job someday. He would absolutely love it, so I really hope it happens! I would be so happy for him/us.

I don't have pictures of everything he's done, but here's a sampling. I am so proud of him!

Here's a cradle he made with ONLY HAND TOOLS (!) for his nephew.

And here's some offeratory boxes he made for my mom's church.

AND! a headboard duplicate. His parents already had one on a twin bed, but they needed matching one.

He and his dad cut down a cherry tree on his parent's property a while ago. They let it dry a bit, then last weekend a guy sawed it into boards for him. That was really interesting actually. All the bark was still on; it was just sliced into boards.

My fiance trimmed it all up and now has to wait a whole year to use it! I am amazed and really admire his patience with his woodworking.

So, I started registering. I have been to Macy's and Target.

My fiance feels really strongly about having extra "stuff" around, and so do I, so I am really being careful not to register for random things I don't need or won't use.

I have lived on my own for a few years, as has he, so we have a lot of things already. I won't register for a blender just because I can. I already have a blender!

Anyway, I'll get off my high horse now. :)

I really had fun picking out china. I've had some Target "College" brand plates (about $20 for a set of 6, I believe), for several years, so I'm excited to upgrade! (Not that there's anything wrong with having Target College plates!) They are by Monique Lhuillier! Oh la la! Can't go wrong with her.

I was just at Macy's and saw AWESOME quilts by Martha Stewart. You know I'm registering for one of these babies! I think I like quilts better than comforters....

I know they aren't like...genuine, your grandma or an amish lady made, but they're still pretty.

They don't even have all the ones at the store listed online, unfortunately. There's some really cool ones in-store!

I stayed home from work today. My allergies are awful! Anyone else feeling it? Yuck. Took some OTC Allegra, but was feeling weird side effects, so not anymore. My eyes are soooo itchy.

Anyway.

I think I am getting old. I read some of the coverage of the MTV VMA's and the whole thing just annoys me! haha. Lady Gaga dressed like a man? Katy Perry wearing a block of cheese on her head? Ugh. They just want attention. I don't care.

Sorry, I really sound like a crotchety old lady.

So, to change the subject, here's some things I do like from this weekend:

Sweet tea. I don't know why I didn't start drinking this earlier in my life.

This awesome scarf hanger. Rarely do I say I "need" something, but I may need this.

Grilling out at the lake with some friends and swimming with their three dogs.

Okay, so I missed "Wedding Wednesday" again. Busy!

We have the photographer all figured out. It was a pretty easy pick for me, since it's my old friends from high school, The Ely Brothers!

They started a wedding photography business a few years ago in Columbus, Ohio, and have exploded in popularity. I am so happy for them. And glad they were open my wedding weekend!

One of the brothers, Caleb, is married to my best friend from high school, Hannah. We haven't been able to hang out as much as we get older, because she has 2 kids and lives in Columbus, but I am so glad they are involved in my wedding!

Wish they had a wedding registry!

Garden update: bitten

I haven't written about my veggie garden much. Mostly because, while it's still technically alive, deer have stripped it clean.

Here's one of my jalapeno plants See the lack of leaves?

I also had several almost-ripe tomatoes, and when I went to pick them, they were gone, along with several branches of my tomato plants. Grrr.

There's lots of ways I've seen to repel deer- soap, human hair, wolf urine (no kidding), etc. I tried using cayenne pepper, sprinkling it on the leaves a few times. However, you're supposed to do it every time after it rains. I didn't, so it's kinda my fault I don't have any veggies.

I was SO MAD when I saw that my tomatoes were gone. In order to get my frustration out, I started digging up our not-ready potatoes with my hands, haha.

Fortunately, I didn't go deep enough to find any, so those are still intact.

Since my parents have 10 tomato plants, they've been giving me some of their bounty. So that is a nice replacement.

Plus, I have the potatoes and some carrots that haven't been decimated to look forward to!

I've been checking out my options for invitations. Seems like the only way to get what I really want is to make them. However, that is time consuming.

And honestly, most people will put the invite on their fridge for a month or so, and then throw it away, right?
So maybe I just shouldn't stress myself out with making them.

Therefore, I've been searching online for pretty ones in the budget range. Unfortunately, I have champagne tastes and a beer budget.

One of the best large scale invitation sites I've found so far is Wedding Paper Divas. They have lots of modern, pretty invites.

I've made a goal this week to search Etsy, too. I really want a more classic, grown-up invitation that will age well, so no bikes or bunting or owls anything. No offense to etsy-I love it- but it might be a difficult task to find what I'm looking for there! haha.

Sometimes I look over a blog post and can't believe the number of typos! So embarrassing. So...sorry about that. I am one of the least detail oriented people you'll ever meet, so this is just one example!

Anyway, moving on.

It has become more and more apparent that I need a new pair of basic black heels to wear to work.

I am not a shoe hoarder, so I only have one pair right now, and they are falling apart.

The lining is coming out of the inside. I tripped on concrete stairs, so there's a rip in the toe. They are patent leather, so they're all scuffed.

And I've nearly worn out the heel to the nail. I can even see it! It's not making that nail clicking sound yet.

I am just not one that enjoys buying clothes for work. Business casual isn't my normal style, so that's why my shoes have gotten this way.

I do like heels in theory, but rarely wear them when I'm not at work- only to weddings and other dressy events (I don't know how these fashion bloggers do it!). I'm just a flats kind of girl.

So anyway, I am on the hunt for some new black heels. Nothing super high, 3 inches at most, so I can be a little comfortable..

You'd actually be surprised at how difficult it is to find some lowish, plain black heels that don't look like grandma shoes!

I do like these kitten heels from Urban Outiftters so far, even though the heel is a bit chunky for my taste:

Wedding Wednesday

So, I decided to start a new weekly segment to share my wedding plans and ideas. I am calling it Wedding Wednesday! (there is no end to my cleverness! haha)

First things first- I got a dress!!!! Yep, after one week of being engaged, the first thing I did was go dress shopping. It is the most fun part, right?

I got it at David's Bridal, which was pretty much the only place in budget range. Since I knew it had to be from there, it wasn't quite as hard to pick. They really do have some cute styles, especially Vera Wang's collection. I didn't get a Vera Wang, but tried on several and really liked them. My mom, future mother-in-law, and future sister-in-law came with me. It was really fun.

We went to look at venues last night too. And we definitely found a reception place. We liked a church, but need to get with them for more details.

Finally, here's a few things I've pinned recently in my wedding ideas pinboard.

Potential bridesmaids dress? Karl Lagerfeld for Macy's.

It's going to be a bit difficult to find cheap flowers in January, especially the ones I like (peonies, ranunculus, poppies), but these anenomes are in season, and they look a lot like poppies!

Love this pretty metallic flower garland. Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to DIY.

My attempt at bagels

So my fiance and I bought a 25 pound bag of flour. Yes. Ridiculous.

It lives in a kitchen chair right now because I am afraid to put it on a floor. What if an ant gets in there? I need a better storage option. Thinking giant bucket with lid.

Anyway, we bought it because I use tons of flour because I like to bake bread. And we did a price comparison, and the giant bag was way cheaper.

For the 25 pound bag-o-flour's inaugural baked good, I attempted bagels.

It is a long process. You start the night before, making a sponge. I decided to use my sourdough starter, and just eyeballed it. Turned out to be a not so good idea.

You also have to boil bagels before you bake them, in brown sugar or malt.

They ended up crunchy and kinda flat. I am not entirely sure what happened, but it was probably a combo of poor guessing of how much sourdough to use, humidity, non-use of recommended flour and overbaking (my oven stinks, it's not my fault!). However, they did taste good, just not very bagel like. I want to try them again, but use all the correct ingredients!

The recipe I used is from an awesome baking website called King Arthur Flour. I highly recommend it!

My wedding board

It's kinda weird to say "my wedding." It's just....soooo exciting and it's something I've thought about for so long, that it's cool that it's here, you know?

Anyway. We haven't set a date yet. But we have a few in mind. We are definitely not having a year long engagement- sounds like torture to me!

I started a wedding pin board yesterday and already have tons of ideas. I haven't run my thoughts on color scheme past my ~~boyfriend~~ fiance yet, so we'll see what he thinks. We still have tons of time.

Guess what?!

On Sunday, July 31, 2011, my boyfriend asked me to MARRY HIM!!

And I said...

YES!!!!

On Saturday, he asked if I wanted to go canoeing the next day. This wasn't an out of the ordinary idea- he has been wanting to build a canoe for a while now, and we've gone with my dad before.

So, we were paddling around, with me in the front, and I heard him rustling behind me. I turned around to see what he was doing and he was (as best one could be in a canoe) on one knee. I just kept saying "What?! What is happening?!" I was shocked and surprised. But in a good way of course! I finally noticed the ring in his hand and he popped the question!

We had to pull the canoe over to the shore because I was shaking from excitement and shock! It was awesome. I wasn't even sure if I could be able to paddle back, haha. We did make it back eventually, after staying on the bank for about 20 minutes. Then we started calling family and friends with the wonderful news!

Best date ever!

No details ironed out yet, of course, but we don't really want a long engagement. I will definitely keep you all posted!

I guess this title is misleading. I didn't actually meet her, I just dined 10 feet from her.

Oh yeah, Kate Hudson was there too.

You know, I'm a regular celebrity magnet.

Anyhow, last year, my college roommate and I went to NYC to meet with some college friends for a girl's weekend. It was a fantastic time.

We went to this trendy, confusing restaurant, called Prune. (It was confusing because the menu was....odd. At least to someone from Ohio.)

None the less, after we had ordered, a woman walked in and my friend Emily quietly and excitedly announced that it was Kate Hudson. We, of course, started giggling and trying to figure if it was her. She was wearing indoor sunglasses, had an unlit cigarette hanging out of her mouth, and was shorter than you'd think. Then, a tall, dark-haired woman entered. It was LIV TYLER.

Listen. I am from Ohio. These things are kind of exciting!

They were sitting next to the bathroom, so I went three times to get a closer confirmation look. And of course it was them. The restaurant staff could tell we were tourists, and this isn't a tourist restaurant. They were very worried about how we would act because they hovered over us constantly.

But we were cool. We didn't take any pictures or go talk to them.

Okay, except for this blurry one. And I'm only posting this supremely unflattering double chinned picture of myself so you can see the back of her blond head between Emily and I!

Liv was standing on the street as we were leaving. She is absolutely STUNNING, even more so than in pictures.

Confession Time: Worst date ever

*this is a long one, so be warned!

Before I met my boyfriend, I went on a string on first dates. And only first dates. No second dates.

They weren't all bad. I just didn't click with most of them.

However, I did have one REALLY awful date.

I was standing in line at Chipotle to get lunch before a meeting. This particular Chipotle is near a lot of hospitals, so my coworker and I always would joke about how we needed to pick up doctors there. har har.....

Anyway, behind me, a tall man in scrubs got in line. I peeked back at him, mostly because I'm nosy, and saw his nametag said neurology department. Brain surgeon.

You can guess where this goes. We went through the line and when I was at the drink station, he ran after me (seriously, they had to call him back to get his credit card at the cash register), asked for my number and asked me out. Woah. I had never had a stranger ask me out point blank (and haven't since!).

So, dumbly, I figured what the heck. It's kinda like what happens on TV (I dunno, maybe you guys get asked out my strangers a lot?)!

I gave him my number, and he insisted we go out that night because he was on call the next two weeks. I was hesitant, because I would have preferred to have at least a few phone conversations beforehand, but I agreed.

Then I left and he immediately started texting me, telling me how pretty I am, sent me his picture (yikes), asked for mine, etc. I didn't send him a picture of me, of course, but I justified his over-texting by thinking that maybe he was bored at lunch and lonely from staring at brains all day.

I told a few coworkers about what happened at lunch and they freaked. However, one coworker plotted for me to marry the guy, and then said coworker could come hang out at our pool, then I could get divorced and get alimony. haha. I told them we would definitely meet in a public place and I would tell someone where I was going. It didn't seem like a big deal to me.

Their comments did sort of get the wheels turning in my head though. I texted him and tried to cop out for another night, and asked if we could chat on the phone a few times. He was SUPER persistent, so I gave in and agreed to meet him for drinks.

We met outside the restaurant and he looked totally different out of scrubs. His hair was really odd. He also texted me about three times as he was parking. Gah.

In the restaurant, we were seated at one of those round booths, where the seating goes all the way around the table. I ordered a beer. He ordered a strawberry fizz. Um.

Then he proceeded to tell me how much money he made (which was a lot. The fact that he told me this was a HUGE turn-off, of course.), and about the Lamborghini he planned to buy. He talked about "our" future. He kept inching closer to me in the booth and trying to hold my hand when I was clearly not interested at all. He also tried a few other things I don't want on the internet (but aren't entirely inappropriate, if you're reading this, Mom.).

Dude gave me the creeps. He was just way too familiar way too fast. He was desparate.

So, after the drinks, I said I needed to get home, but he convinced me to go for a walk with him along with river. I guess I am too nice, so I agreed, even though I wanted to hightail it out of there.

We eventually sat down on a bench (in a well lit area). All of my body language was saying "stay away!!" but he leaned over and tried to kiss me. What in the world. I physically pushed him away and he seemed unphased. He started talking about our future again, then reciting all his great character traits, like how funny and smart he was. I said I really had to get home, so he walked me to my car, and I gave him an awkward hug.

The next day....oh, the next day. He texted me asking why I acted weird at the end of the date, so I told him politely that he came on much too strong for me. He was pretty much ready to marry me.

Dude did not get it AT ALL. He texted me about 10 times in the next 5 minutes arguing with me. I didn't respond at all. I actually don't remember much of what he said, other than that I was a prude. I told him good luck with his dating search. He told me I would regret not seeing him again. I didn't answer of course, and I completely disagree.

I wish I could remember more details of this ordeal, because I'm sure I forgot other great stuff. His final texts were so....over the top for just one date, and so funny that I kept them for a while, just to read to friends ( is that mean?). I eventually did delete them though. Yuck.

Anyway, I am so happy I met my wonderful boyfriend a few months after this.

I just remembered, before we started dating, we were both at a get-together and I regaled this story to everyone, him included. Haha. Well, guess that gave him hints on what not to do when going on a first date with me!

Back from vacay

I'm back from Yellowstone!

We landed in Salt Lake City.

Here's me wading in the Great Salt Lake, off of Antelope Island, an island park in the lake.

From there, we drove through Idaho.

This is Upper Mesa Falls. Isn't that rainbow amazing?

Then we got to the house we were renting for the week in Gardiner, Montana, the town directly north of Yellowstone National Park.

Mid-week, the boyfriend and I drove further north in Montana to visit his grandma and step grandpa. They live in a small town on the side of a mountain. It was a beautiful drive and beautiful country. They also have a really cute guest log cabin, which I loved!

It sure is hard to get back into the swing of things in "real life" after a great vacation! Thanks to all my awesome guest bloggers, too.

I had a wonderful time with my family, and I absolutely love the west. I hope to make it back very soon.

Hi to Jenny's readers! I hope you're all enjoying the summertime and the sunshine! I wanted to share with you a little summery garden fun: Gather the Perfect Casual Mid-Summer Bouquet. Whether you have an apartment or house, green thumb or black thumb, this is a great little pick-me up bouquet for your desk, kitchen counter or guest bathroom.

Around this time of the year, most of our gardens or containers are beat down by the heat and a little burned around the edges. The plants that escape the heat the best are mostly woody and there are a few that are flowering. Side note: I am always in love with the fern family, but especially in the summer, when they hold up well against harsh circumstances.

First, I gathered: Hosta, Fern, and Perennial Begonia

Then, I chose a tall and skinny vase and added a little bright summery color - a Coneflower and a Daylily bud.

Set this pretty arrangement where you can admire it all day long and voila! With a few common garden finds, you can create a beautiful arrangement that will bring a smile to your face. PS - That daylily bud will open up its pretty face in just a few hours!

Mixed Berry Angel Food Cake

As much as I love to bake (and I do), some days I just don't want to be in the kitchen. When it's 100 degrees out and I have to make something...anything...for a family event, I don't want to turn the oven on - and no one else wants me to either, because it heats up the entire house. It's for situations such as these that I go to my cheater ideas. I love making desserts that look good, that everybody loves, but that take no time at all - bonus points if they don't involve my oven!

In this case, I turned to my Mixed Berry Angel Food Cake. There's no real recipe, I just try to get the best looking berries I can from our grocery store (or, even better, farmer's market) and go from there. This cake has a really short ingredient list, and uses a pre-made angel food cake, so there's no slaving over the oven and it takes maybe 20 minutes of hands on time. Also, because you make sweeten the berries and whip the cream yourself, everyone assumes that you also made the cake.

This cake also has the advantage of being incredibly flexible. If you want to change up the berries, do it. Add blackberries or raspberries. Take out the blueberries and just use strawberries. Crush some of the strawberries with the sugar if you don't want as many big chunks of strawberry (this will also make it more spoonable). My favorite recipes are those that are adaptable and changeable, and this is certainly one of those.

This is a very tasty cake. It's not the most glamorous, but it gets the job done with minimal effort. Make sure to pile it high with berries and leave extras on the side for guests to add. By all means, make tons of whipped cream - I always think that whipped cream is the best part of any dessert, and you want your guests to be able to add as much as they want. Plus, fresh made whipped cream impresses everyone. Seriously, try it - not many people whip their own cream, and most people think it takes forever. Enjoy the cake, enjoy the guests, and most importantly, bake on!

Mixed Berry Angel Food Cake

Makes enough for 16 small slices, with some whipped cream left over.

Recipe by me.

Ingredients:

1 store-bought angel food cake

1 lb. strawberries

1 cup (1/2 pt. or as many as you'd like) blueberries

3 Tbs. sugar

1 pt. heavy cream or whipping cream

2 Tbs. sugar (to taste)

Instructions:

1. Cut the stems off the strawberries, and quarter or sixth the strawberries.

2. In a bowl (or a disposable container, if you're traveling), combine the strawberries, blueberries, and sugar. Let it sit at room temperature for an hour or two - you want the juices to be released.

3. When the berries are ready, put the cream and sugar in a cold bowl and mix until stiff peaks form (see picture above). You can do this with a bowl and a hand mixer, or a mixer bowl and stand mixer. It shouldn't take long - a couple of minutes or so. Either leave the whipped cream in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and place in the fridge, or put the whipped cream in a disposable container (if you're traveling), and place it in the fridge.

To put it all together:

1. Place the cake on a cake plate or cake carrier.

2. Spoon some of the berries and juice around the top. Leave extra in a bowl or container on the side, so guests can add more if they'd like.

3. Put the whipped cream in a bowl or leave it in its container, with a spoon, and let guests add as much or as little whipped cream as they'd like.

4. Slice, and serve.

Hey everyone! I'm Abby from A Picture A Day and I'm delighted to have a guest post for Jenny while she is on vacation. I want to talk about a subject that is one of the main focuses of my blog and also that I happen to be very passionate about: photography!

Now I have no illusions of being a professional photographer, but I have been told that I take nice photos and I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on what makes a great photo.

I use a Cannon S95 which I received this past Christmas. I did a lot of research before choosing this camera. I didn't pick a DSLR because of the expense, and because in my current lifestyle, it would be very inconvenient to lug around a huge camera. I love the flexibility that a small camera brings. I can put it in my pocket (although I typically carry it around my neck) and take it everywhere I go. This an especially important factor when traveling. The fewer things I have to carry, the better, so a smaller camera makes sense. I hope to someday have the expertise and money to purchase a great DSLR. The only editing I do is with iPhoto. I wish I knew how to use photoshop (and could afford it). But of course, there are lots of great free photo editing programs online if you are so inclined.

Here are a few things I think make a great photo:

Interesting subject. Doesn't have to be an intense, amazing moment (like a wedding day) or a cute subject (like a puppy or baby). If it is interesting to you, then that will shine through the photo. I obviously adore taking photos of my pets and the outdoors.

Good light. I rarely use the flash on my camera. In fact, I can't remember the last time I used it. I much prefer natural light and have found that evenings are great because the sun is less harsh, but it's not dark yet. I'm sure early morning would work well too. Try to take advantage of the light to enhance your photo.

Experiment. Take all sorts of pictures - In color, black and white, from a crazy angle, whatever you feel like. You might discover a different technique that you hadn't given much thought to before. It can bring variety to your photographs.

Be ready. Always have your camera ready. There have been way too many times where I've wished I had my camera with me. You'll avoid this regret by always keeping one near.

Whenever I make cookies, it's not a subdued affair.

It's always about more chocolate! More peanut butter! More caramel! Or better yet, all three smooshed together!!

I don't know why. I really do enjoy a good, plain old sugar cookie sometimes.

With that in mind, and thinking of my Reese's minis post last week, I came up with a devious cookie recipe that is not subdued in any way whatsoever.

Chocolate peanut butter chocolate peanut butter cookies.

And I totally meant to type chocolate peanut butter twice. :)

Yes, these cookies contain melted Reese's minis. And peanut butter. And cocoa powder. and, if you choose, you can put a little Reese's mini on top, too.

Here's the recipe:

1 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup Reese's minis

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup AP flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 cup cocoa powder (I used Hershey's Dark)

1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat over to 350 degrees

1. Melt Reese's Minis in microwave
2. Beat peanut butter, minis, butter, and sugars in a large bowl. Add in eggs and vanilla.
3. In a smaller bowl, mix flour, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt.
4. Gradually add flour mixture to peanut butter mixture.
5. Drop by rounded teaspoons on ungreased baking sheet two inches apart. Either add a Reese's mini to the top, or press down with fork.

Garden update: I grew spinach!

This weekend, we decided to harvest the spinach from the garden.

We planted it really late in the season, so I wasn't hoping for the best. Spinach is supposed to be planted when it's a bit cooler; in early and late summer.

But....check it out!

Actually, I take that back about the lateness. We started spinach inside months ago, but it all died.

When we started planting our other veggies- tomatoes, beans and peppers- we thought we'd throw a few spinach seeds in the ground and see what happened.

It flourished! And it's very tender. We put it on some pizza, and I took some for lunch at work. It was really cool to eat something we grew.

Since, like I said, spinach can be planted in late summer, you know I'll be planting another crop before winter comes!

Confession time: attack of the weird thumb

Okay guys. You have to promise me you'll still be my friend after I tell you this. Because it's kinda odd.

Okay, here goes.

I have a toe thumb:

(sorry about the awful photobooth pic- do you know how hard it is to take pictures of both your thumbs?)

Yes, one thumb, my left, is long and skinny and...normal. The other is short and fat...and weird.

I have met two other people with asymmetrical thumbs and we were buddies immediately because...hey, it's kinda unique.

The medical term for this is Brachydactyly type D.

Apparently it is hereditary, though I don't know anyone in my family with them. It's just a genetic oddity that has no effect on me, other than it's hard to find a bowling ball that fits my thumb.

Some folks with the weird thumb say it came from royal family inbreeding, but I think that's just wishful thinking. (The being royal part, not the inbreeding part, of course! :)

Palm readers (which I have no faith in, mind you) call it the "murderer's thumb", and those of us with the toe thumb could fly into a rage at any second...so watch out!!

Okay, there it is. I feel better. ;) Are we still friends??

Cool places to live: converted barn

How lovely would it be to live in a converted barn?

Back from Chicago!

I am back from Chicago! It was a quick day and a half trip.

I went to visit my friend Melissa, who is there for the summer.

Of course, I got the obligatory bean shots.

We went shopping at Wicker Park, and I got a cute dress from this store called Pitaya. However, a button fell off as soon as I put it on, bummer. The dress wasn't super pricey, but I wouldn't expect a button to fall off immediately. Too bad because the store had some cute clothes.

We also went to this cute coffee shop. I can't remember the name, but it starts with an I (and it's not Intelligentsia, though that coffee is yummy). I got a iced latte and Melissa got a yummy nutella mocha. mmmm....I had a few sips of that.

We also took a touristy architecture boat ride. It was actually super fun and informative. I love boat rides.

The weekend was really fun. I was glad to get back home and see boyfriend though too. Thanks for the fun, Melissa!

Okay ladies, I am headed to Chicago this weekend!!!

Boyfriend is going camping with his buddy, so I thought I'd visit my friend who's there this summer. I am hopping on the Megabus Friday morning and coming back Sunday morning.

Wish we could have a little blogger meet-up, but alas...no time.

Anyways, what should we do when I'm there? She already has tons of fun ideas, but I am open for more!

Mandy Moore has been a style icon since of mine since high school. She's been a bit under the radar for the past 5 or 6 years, though, and I think she's highly underrated in the fashion department. Maybe she's not super daring, but always looks pulled together and great.

Monday Fashion Notes

I haven't felt very inspired fashion-wise this summer. Mostly been wearing little t-shirts and shorts or skirts. It is just hard to keep up with fashion sometimes, trying to have the next cool thing. I think I'm starting not to care as much. haha.

So, after that declaration, I'm sure you'll want to read my fashion notes. ;)

1. Shorts. This is the first year in a long time that I've actually worn shorts. I don't know why I didn't before. I guess I thought I was too cool? I only wore pants and skirts. But I am over that now. Shorts are the best.

2. Cute details. Something that always attracts me to any peice of clothing is a cute little detail, a little extra something. Like bows on the back, a scalloped hem or buttons.

3. Pretty hurr braids. I love seeing pretty/slightly messy hair with a cute braid. However, sadly, I can't do these on myself. I can dream though, right? I wish I was a most hair oriented person- normally i just blow dry it and leave it. Sometimes I will throw it up in a messy bun, but that's about it. I just don't have the patience for these things!
